Location of work: QLD, ACT, VIC, NSW | Hybrid

Working arrangements: Successful applicants must work full-time on site for 3 months or until they understand our client’s ICT landscape, requirements and project objectives. Flexible working arrangements may be considered afterward, subject to approval based on operational needs and ICT Contractor Working from Home Guidelines. Contractors must be on-site in office at least 3 days per week. Remote work costs are the contractor’s responsibility.

Description:

Our client is seeking four Solution Architects to provide technical leadership in the design and implementation of systems and software solutions across a range of ICT projects. The successful candidates will be responsible for ensuring the quality of solution architecture work and supporting the delivery of secure and effective technology solutions.

The role will involve working closely with Enterprise Architects, project teams and stakeholders to deliver architecture artefacts, manage technology risks and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards and governance requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver Security Impact Assessments (SIA)
  • Document conceptual, logical and physical solution architectures
  • Work with program and project managers to deliver target state solutions
  • Remediate and manage project technology risks and issues through mitigation activities
  • Work with Principal Architects and Lead Domain Architects to comply with enterprise architecture methodologies, patterns and technologies
  • Ensure project architecture artefacts are delivered within required timeframes
  • Develop technology and system architecture artefacts, including solution designs and blueprints
  • Provide architecture guidance and advice to project delivery teams and stakeholders
  • Ensure architecture artefacts are fit for purpose and aligned with architecture standards and governance requirements
  • Build and maintain stakeholder relationships with executives, business representatives, project managers and architects
  • Develop positive team engagement through effective communication and collaboration
  • Transfer skills and knowledge to departmental staff
  • Ensure documentation is maintained in accordance with recordkeeping policies and practices
  • Produce Architectural Decisions documentation
  • Produce Security Impact Assessments
  • Produce Business Process Mapping artefacts
  • Produce High Level Solution Designs

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated application of The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) or equivalent architecture frameworks
  • Experience utilising Architecture Repository
  • Experience with Domain Driven Design, Cloud Architecture and Services Oriented Architecture (SOA)
  • Experience with modern Software Delivery Life Cycle (SDLC) management
  • Ability to develop and deliver solution architecture artefacts
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience managing architecture governance and compliance requirements

Essential Criteria:

  • Business Process Improvement level 5 - Manages the execution of business process improvements. Analyses and designs business processes to identify alternative solutions to improve efficiency, effectiveness and exploit new technologies and automation. Develops graphical models of business processes to facilitate understanding and decision-making. Assesses the feasibility of business process changes and recommends alternative approaches. Selects, tailors and implements methods and tools for improving business processes at programme, project or team level. Contributes to the definition of organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for business process improvement.
  • Enterprise and business architecture level 5 - Develops models and plans to drive the execution of the business strategy, taking advantage of opportunities to improve business performance. Contributes to creating and reviewing a systems capability strategy which meets the business's strategic requirements. Determines requirements and specifies effective business processes, through improvements in technology, information or data practices, organisation, roles, procedures and equipment.
  • Software design level 5 - Specifies and designs large or complex software applications, components and modules. Adopts and adapts software design methods, tools and techniques. Undertakes impact analysis on major design options, makes recommendations and assesses and manages associated risks. Specifies prototypes/simulations to enable informed decision-making. Evaluates software designs to ensure adherence to standards and identifies corrective action. Ensures that the software design balances functional, quality, security and systems management requirements. Contributes to the development of organisational software design and architecture policies and standards.
  • Solution Architecture level 4 - Contributes to the development of solution architectures in specific business, infrastructure or functional areas. Identifies and evaluates alternative architectures and the trade-offs in cost, performance and scalability. Determines and documents architecturally significant decisions. Produces specifications of cloud-based or on-premises components, tiers and interfaces, for translation into detailed designs using selected services and products. Supports projects or change initiatives through the preparation of technical plans and application of design principles. Aligns solutions with enterprise and solution architecture standards (including security).
  • Stakeholder relationship management level 5 - Identifies the communications and relationship needs of stakeholder groups. Translates communications/stakeholder engagement strategies into specific activities and deliverables. Facilitates open communication and discussion between stakeholders. Acts as a single point of contact by developing, maintaining and working to stakeholder engagement strategies and plans. Provides informed feedback to assess and promote understanding. Facilitates business decision-making processes. Captures and disseminates technical and business information.
  • Systems design level 5 - Designs large or complex systems and undertakes impact analysis on major design options and trade-offs. Ensures that the system design balances functional and non-functional requirements. Reviews systems designs and ensures that appropriate methods, tools and techniques are applied effectively. Makes recommendations and assesses and manages associated risks. Adopts and adapts system design methods, tools and techniques. Contributes to development of system design policies, standards and selection of architecture components.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience in producing reports, developing technology road maps and sharing insights and knowledge.
  • Within a defined area of accountability, proficiency in determining and establishing effective governance requirements in which aligns with the department’s values, ethics and broader governance frameworks.
  • Extensive experience in leading the planning and coordination of information assurance and accreditation activities to achieve and ensure compliance with the department’s obligations.
  • High level of communication and written skills. Confident in developing and communicating policies, standards and guidelines for strategy planning and development, and other related change planning artefacts.
