Working arrangements: Hybrid. The successful candidate is required to work onsite on a full-time basis for the first 6 weeks. A hybrid flexible working arrangement may then be considered, provided their residential address is within reasonable travel time and distance of the work location to attend onsite in an emergency or to meet business requirements.

Description:

Our client is seeking an experienced Scrum Master to support delivery teams, monitor and improve team performance, and apply agile methodologies to meet user needs. Working under limited direction, the Scrum Master will facilitate agile practices, remove blockers and support teams to maintain delivery throughput.

The role involves working closely with Delivery Managers, Product Owners, Software Architects, Project Managers, Analysts, Testers and Developers. The successful candidate will help teams establish and maintain velocity, negotiate priorities and goals, manage competing priorities and continuously improve agile ways of working.

Responsibilities:

  • Build the team’s knowledge of agile values and principles, as well as techniques, processes and tools.
  • In collaboration with the team, develop a mutually agreed social contract outlining team behaviours, practices and agile process rules.
  • Plan and facilitate agile ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews and retrospectives.
  • Assist the Product Owner with reviewing and refining the product backlog, re-prioritising and re-assessing the relevance of tasks/stories to ensure alignment with agile principles.
  • Anticipate and address/remove blockers and impediments so the team can remain focused on its goals.
  • Negotiate with Product Owners and stakeholders to protect the team from external influences impacting their ability to meet agreed goals.
  • Co-ordinate with other teams to manage dependencies and support delivery.
  • Oversee new starters and support their smooth transition into the team.
  • Help the team manage conflicts and challenges and improve team cohesion, motivation, dynamics and performance.
  • Create an environment of trust and respect where issues or concerns can be raised safely.
  • Ensure adherence to agreed agile process rules.
  • Conduct agile rituals and events and actively contribute to communication and change activities involving stakeholders.
  • Research agile trends, industry dynamics, frameworks and tooling to improve the team’s use of agile methodologies.
  • Build team capability through coaching and mentoring.
  • Facilitate teams and enable them to self-manage and self-organise.
  • Develop and implement changes in workplace practices and business improvement strategies and assist the team to transition with change.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience as a Scrum Master.
  • Ability to apply agile values, principles and practices under limited direction.
  • Ability to support Product Owners in maintaining an appropriate backlog of prioritised work items.
  • Ability to work within or across agile multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to guide individuals and teams in applying agile values, principles and practices.
  • Ability to gain knowledge of the client’s software development lifecycle, tools, services, deployment procedures and cyber security policies.

Essential Criteria:

  • Measurement: Level 4 (SFIA) Identifies and prioritises appropriate measures, scales, and targets. Supports projects, functions or teams in the development of measurement methods. Specifies base and derived measures which support agreed information needs. Specifies how to collect and store the data for each required measure. Provides guidance on collection of data. Designs reports and reporting formats.
  • Methods and tools: Level 4 (SFIA) Provides advice and guidance to support the adoption of methods and tools and adherence to policies and standards. Tailors processes in line with agreed standards and evaluation of methods and tools. Reviews and improves usage and application of methods and tools.
  • Organisational facilitation: Level 5 (SFIA) Facilitates workgroups to deliver defined goals and outcomes. Provides support, guidance and suggestions to workgroups and teams to learn collaborative problem solving and improve their team performance. Creates shared responsibilities and sustainable agreements with the team. Implements and improves agreed team principles, practices, processes & ceremonies. Recognises and works with the strengths and constraints of team dynamics.

  • Specialist advice: Level 4 (SFIA) Provides detailed and specific advice regarding the application of their specialism to the organisation's planning and operations. Where appropriate, collaborates with other specialists to ensure advice given is appropriate to the organisation's needs.
