Duration: Initial 14 months with 1 x 12-month extension

Location of work: ACT – MEB, Barton / APW

Working arrangements: Monday to Friday, standard 40-hour week. Occasional overtime by agreement. Interstate travel and shipboard access required.

Description:

Our client is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the delivery and sustainment of warfighting networks and applications for Navy platforms under the SEA2273 sub-program. This role will be part of the Warfighting Networks and Applications Support Organisation (WSO) and will contribute to the development, operational deployment, and sustainment of integrated mission systems in line with Defence requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute detailed engineering plans aligned to Navy platform needs.

  • Engage constructively with stakeholders including NSG-SPO, ISSC, and NI&IWB.

  • Progress and facilitate approval of Request for Problem Resolutions (RPR).

  • Coordinate with Installation Managers for AD514-1 approvals.

  • Identify engineering risks and opportunities.

  • Provide specialist engineering advice and support.

  • Develop engineering documentation, control processes, and cost analysis for contractor work.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Engineering or related tertiary qualification.

  • Demonstrated experience in Defence as a Systems Engineer, particularly with project delivery.

  • Knowledge and experience with Royal Australian Navy (RAN) platforms.

  • Familiarity with AD514 engineering processes.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Ability to physically access Navy ships during maintenance, requiring PPE and White Card.

  • DSN access capability.

  • Must comply with ITAR regulations.

Key Capabilities:

  • Systems engineering in Defence environments.

  • Project coordination and stakeholder liaison.

  • Risk management and process documentation.

  • Analytical and negotiation skills.

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., Bachelor of Engineering).

  • Demonstrated experience working in Defence as a Systems Engineer.

  • RAN platform knowledge and experience.

  • Experience with Navy AD514 Engineering processes.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in Defence maritime environment.

  • Experience in Defence Capability Lifecycle Projects.

  • Military/APS/Contractor experience with Ship Class SPOs and ISSCs.

  • Experience working with SEA2273.
